The idea of whether physical education lessons are essential at school is controversial. Some people think that students need sports during their school days, whereas others believe that it is meaningless.
To my mind, sports at school has no real benefits and cannot be the most useful subject. There are several reasons for that. First of all, there are a lot of school lessons which teach students significant things: social studies, physics and mathematics. That develops adolescents’ brains and prepares them for future life better than sports do. Secondly, physical education lessons usually set equal training goals for every student.
However, it is a wrong and unfair strategy as people have individual abilities for sport. However, my opponents say that physical education is important for school learners. They say that it helps children achieve academic progress because sport burns extra energy and, as a result, students concentrate on studying better. I cannot agree with my opponents.
Young people can easily get the activity they need after school by playing with friends or doing their favorite active hobbies such as dancing or skateboarding. To sum up, I believe that the most essential subjects are scientific ones. Therefore, physical education is a useful but not compulsory addition in a school program.
